The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) states that by October 2004 all public establishments whereby the public require access such as offices. Institutions, shops, council buildings etc should have accessible entry via a ramp – either permanent or temporary. All Pro Rider mobility access ramps comply with the DDA regulations and allow the establishment to meet the requirements of disabled users. The ramps are portable and lightweight making them easy to handle by staff members.
Many establishments have found that it is not practical or viable to install a permanent ramp which is why we have designed and manufactured our range of portable mobility access ramps.
Many customers ask questions about the correct length of ramp compared to the height of a step or car. Public buildings with fixed self propelled wheelchair access usually have a gradient of a 1 in 12. However for portable access ramps the staff member will usually be on hand to assist the wheelchair user. Thus, a smaller ramp gradient may be suitable. The recommended gradient for mobility scooter and electric wheelchair users is a 1 in 8 gradient. Again this will vary depending on the type of scooter or wheelchair used plus the ground clearance that the machine has. For further advice contact Pro Rider on 01604 813428
Our range of mobility portable access ramps will meet the requirements of all public and private buildings.
